Choice of Support

You can choose the type of support that feels right for you:

  • One-on-one support
    • personalised STA with a dedicated support worker focused on your goals and comfort.
  • Group support
    • share experiences, build friendships and practice skills together in a supportive group.

Both options are friendly, safe and respectful — you stay in control.

We’ll support you every step of the way to make sure your STA trip is meaningful, enjoyable and skill-building.

Skill Building

We can help you develop the skills you need to be comfortable in new environments by focusing on:

  • Problem-solving
    • developing critical thinking by addressing unexpected changes or challenges during an outing, such as dealing with a lost item or an unexpected closure.
  • Public transport training
    • learning to plan routes, read timetables, purchase tickets, and travel safely on public transport
  • Communication
    • practicing verbal and non-verbal communication in new environments and with unfamiliar people.
  • Decision making
    • making independent choices regarding daily activities, meals, and social engagement with support from staff.

You choose what activities and goals you want to focus on, and we support you at your pace. Our goal is to help you feel confident, included and proud of what you achieve.

Need To Know

Frequently asked questions, answered.

We know starting a new support service can bring lots of questions.

The goal is to help you increase your independence and confidence by stepping outside your usual routine in a fun, supported setting! These trips are all about building real-world skills like budgeting, planning, cooking for a group, managing your daily schedule, and socialising in new environments. It’s a break from routine that helps you grow!
We choose exciting and practical locations for our short trips, such as regional towns, coastal areas, or local attractions that offer great learning opportunities. The activities are designed around skill-building—you might be cooking a group dinner, budgeting for groceries at a new supermarket, or navigating the community. We make sure the location and activities match the goals you want to work on.
You have a few options to fund these valuable trips:
  • Option 1: Short-Term Accommodation (STA) Funding: This is the easiest way, as the STA budget covers support worker time, accommodation, meals, and activities as one package.
  • Option 2: Core Supports Funding: You can use your Core Supports (Social and Community Participation) to cover the cost of transport and the support worker’s time while on the trip.
We will talk through your plan to figure out the best way to cover the support you need.
Our trips usually run for 2 to 4 nights (often over a weekend or a long weekend), but we can be flexible based on your NDIS plan. You can choose to go with a small, friendly group of other participants, which is great for building new social connections, or we can organise a dedicated one-on-one trip if you need more focused attention.
We always ensure you have the right level of support to feel safe and confident, no matter where we go. If you join a group trip, we maintain a comfortable ratio (like 1 support worker for every 3 participants) so everyone gets plenty of attention and support. If you have higher support needs, we make sure you have the dedicated one-on-one help you require.
If you use your general Core Supports instead of STA funding, please remember that the funding only covers the support worker's time. You will need to cover the costs of the accommodation, all meals, and any activity entry fees separately. We will discuss all these costs with you before you book so there are no surprises!
